Swimming
Swimming in naturally warm geothermal water is one of the ‘musts’ of visiting Iceland.  Unlikely as it may sound, pools are favoured meeting places, as people tend to congregate in the ‘hot pot’ Jacuzzis to discuss politics and current events.
Hafnarfjördur has two pools:
- One north of the town centre near the Vídistadatún campsite,
- and a newer one in the southern part of town.

Both are heated with natural geothermal water, which is cooled down to a comfortable 26°C or so (warmer in the hot pots). Both pools have hot pots, sauna, massage and solarium, and the pool in the south of town has a water chute and other sport and fitness facilities, such as a workout room, heated running track and mini-golf. Groups should contact the pool in advance to enquire about discounts.

Hafnarfjördur also has a number of fitness centres for those health-conscious visitors
